Walking through the quarry leaves one not ony with a true sense of awe at the spectacular amount of work that went into the production of these great statues, but a greater sense of wonder at what truly happened to this great society. The moai are scattered about the quarry as though everyone simpy forgot to show up to work one day - and never returned.
